We are proud to announce a new book by J. David Book that chronicles the first 75 years of Laguna Atascosa. David spent  almost 3 years researching, pouring through thousands of documents and and photographs and interviewing many current and former staff, members of our community and volunteers. The result is a compilation of sometimes surprising facts, anecdotes, humor, and a lot of photographs that provide an entertaining history of Laguna Atascosa. David is a volunteer, an educator, an historian, and a member of Friends of LANWR.

  • Refuge open daily, sunrise to sunset. Entry fees are currently waived.

  • Steve Thompson Wildlife Drive (formerly, Bayside Drive), is now open to hiking and biking only.

  • Buena Vista Road is open. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MPH!

  • Please do not drive or park on the dedicated bicycle lane.

  • Refuge walking and biking trails are open 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset.

  • Visitor Center is closed. Call 956-244-2019 for information.
